It seems unlikely to me that this item is below the threshold of originality in its home country of Japan. While it is probably below the threshold in the US, where textual items receive a special notice, that is not clear for Japan (I think I remember seeing somewhere a Japanese item with lettering that was copyrightable). Keep Looking at the examples and googling a bit for images, I would say that this logo looks safe. The Asahi Beer logo is too simple according to one of the cases on that page. There is also the Cup Noodle case where the words "CUP" and "NOODLE" are found not to be artistic.
